For the past years, my friends and I have run our own charity organization. We support an orphanage in Ghana, West Africa. The orphanage is home to 41 kids and teens who all have lost their parents in different ways. But had the chance to be a part of the big, beautiful family they have created at the orphanage instead.
What we do?
In Ghana, some regions and areas are suffering harder from poverty than others. This contributes to that a lot of kids and teenagers can’t have a proper education. Which is what we work for, me and my two best friends. We mostly sell handmade bracelets and collect bottles and cans that we recycle (you are able to recycle cans in exchange for money in Sweden). And all the money we raise goes directly to Ghana! So we’re basically helping the kids in Ghana while also helping the environment. Win-win!
At the moment, we’re sponsoring two kids and their names are Suzzie, 11, and Samuel, 12. And my family does also support a little boy named Nana who is 5 y/o. The money we send is for paying the school fee and providing with books and supplies. In Sweden the education is free and we often take it for granted but in Ghana, like many other countries, you have to pay every semester and tons of kids are dreaming of an education. For the last four years, we have sponsored the orphanage with money for Christmas presents and dinner so that the kids can get the Christmas they deserve.
So far we’ve raised around 40.000 SEK/ swedish kr (4 784 USD, 4 042 EUR) !
We strongly believe that kindness changes the world to the better and if you are able to help people in need, in any way, you’ll contribute to just that.
The pictures below are not taken by me, they’re taken by the two girls who run the orphanage/ childcare. I have never been to Ghana but I would love to visit the kids as a volunteer sometime in the future.

Wow, this is amazing! It is brilliant how you are able to do this and raise the money. I have always wanted to do work in an orphanage or something similar when I am older. Your work is inspiring! It really shows that you don’t need to wait until you are older to make a difference xx

You’re so right. Everyone in every age is able to make a difference, if you have the interest to do so. You should totally do something like that when you get older, it’s a great goal. That has literally been my dream since I started this project, to work at the orphanage in Ghana for a while. I really want to make it happen in the future!
