Woke Up In Sri Lanka

Two 6 hour flights, first from Sweden to transfer in Doha, Qatar further to finally arrive in Colombo, Sri Lanka. I’ve literally been dying to get here ever since we booked and now I’m finally here in paradise!! So stoked! Sri Lanka has been on my travel bucket list for a few years so I’m so happy to be here and to be able to explore a country that is new to all of us. I’m beyond excited to experience the Sri Lankan culture and the things this country has to offer.

The Happy Elephant, Negombo

The first night we stayed at the cute hotel The Happy Elephant in Negombo, just 40 minutes outside of Sri Lanka’s capital city Colombo. The hotel is located on the beach with very modern and fresh design and style. We arrived in the afternoon just in time for the dinner they had planned for us on the beach. The beach was not super fun though since the waves are to big to be able to take a swim but I really loved their pool and the scenery with those big palms just outside the window.

Transfer Down To Unawatuna

At 11 am our transfer down to the south arrived at The Happy Elephant. It took us a two hour mini buss ride to come to our next location and stay – Unawatuna.

The palm lined beaches, turquoise water, a big amount of sea turtles, yoga in the jungle and a good selection of guesthouses and shacks is what makes Unawatuna very popular with travelers. And also some of the reasons why we chose to book a week here.

The first thing we did when we arrived in Unawatuna was going down to Dalawella/Wijaya beach which is literally 5 minutes from our accommodation. Our first proper day in Sri Lanka included swimming with at least 7 sea turtles by the reef and eat good food at the beach shack. Not a bad start!

You can look forward to a bunch of update and travel guides popping up from me these upcoming weeks. Don’t forget to subscribe so you won’t miss anything! And hope you’re all having a lovely time these days just before Christmas.

Who else do rather have a sunny Christmas than a white one? Let me know how you’re spending the holidays this year in the comment section down below!
